Treat varicocele without surgery.

Scrotal discomfort, swelling, or concerns about male fertility? Varicocele embolisation provides effective treatment through a tiny catheter — no surgical incision, no general anaesthesia, and fast recovery.

Understanding Varicocele Embolisation

A varicocele is an enlargement of the veins within the scrotum (similar to varicose veins in the legs). It affects about 15% of men and is the most common correctable cause of male infertility. Varicoceles can also cause scrotal heaviness, dull ache, and testicular atrophy.
Varicocele embolisation is a minimally invasive procedure performed by an Interventional Radiologist as an alternative to surgical ligation. A tiny catheter is used to block the enlarged veins from inside — without any scrotal incision. The procedure has comparable success rates to surgery with faster recovery and lower complication rates.

How Does Varicocele Embolisation Work?

Dr. Vrishit Saraswat inserts a small catheter through a tiny puncture in the neck or groin vein. Under X-ray guidance, the catheter is navigated to the internal spermatic vein (the vein feeding the varicocele). Small coils and/or a sclerosant agent are deployed to block the abnormal vein. Blood then redirects through healthy alternative pathways. The procedure takes 30–60 minutes under local anaesthesia. Most men go home the same day and return to work within 1–2 days.

Focused Patient Care

We evaluate each patient’s varicocele grade, semen parameters, and symptoms to determine whether embolisation, observation, or referral for surgical repair is the most appropriate course of action.

24/7 Care

For men with fertility concerns, we prioritise timely intervention. Delaying varicocele treatment can further impact sperm quality. We offer prompt consultations and treatment scheduling.

Timely Care

Post-embolisation follow-up includes Doppler ultrasound to confirm varicocele resolution and repeat semen analysis at 3 months to assess improvement in sperm parameters.
Pinhole access techniques for minimal trauma and faster recovery
Advanced image-guided navigation for precision targeting of vascular structures
Expertise in emergency angioembolization for internal bleeding control

Our Treatment Process

Here is what your varicocele embolisation journey looks like:
1
Diagnosis & Planning
Advanced imaging scans help pinpoint blockages, bleeding, or vascular abnormalities; treatment is tailored to your exact condition and medical history.
2
Minimally Invasive Procedure
A catheter is inserted through a pinhole access point to treat the target vessel without open surgery, using real-time imaging guidance.
3
Recovery & Monitoring
Most patients recover quickly with minimal pain and receive comprehensive follow-up care to track healing progress and ensure optimal outcomes.

FAQs About The Service

Common questions about varicocele embolisation:
What are endovascular interventions?
Endovascular interventions are minimally invasive procedures performed inside blood vessels using catheters and specialized tools, guided by real-time imaging to treat vascular conditions without open surgery.
How long does an endovascular procedure take?
Most endovascular procedures take 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on complexity. Simple embolizations may take 30-45 minutes, while complex angioplasty or stenting procedures may take 1-2 hours.
What is the recovery time after endovascular treatment?
Recovery is typically faster than open surgery. Most patients can return to normal activities within 24-48 hours, with full recovery in 1-2 weeks. Heavy lifting restrictions may apply for 7-10 days.
Are endovascular procedures painful?
These procedures are performed under local anesthesia with conscious sedation. Patients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure and mild soreness at the access site afterward, which resolves within 2-3 days.
What are the risks of endovascular interventions?
Risks are generally low and include minor bleeding at the access site, temporary bruising, or rare allergic reactions to contrast dye. Serious complications are uncommon due to the minimally invasive nature of these procedures.
Will I need to stay in the hospital overnight?
Most endovascular procedures are day-care procedures. Patients typically go home the same day after 4-6 hours of observation. Overnight stay may be required for complex cases or if complications arise.
